Can Team USA accomplish a three-peat?

Billed as the biggest women’s sporting event in history, the FIFA Women’s World Cup is thrillingly living up to expectations. Indeed, the heavyweights that every team wants to take down a peg or two are Team USA, who have claimed the last two consecutive women’s world cups.

  Image source: Sportinglife.com        Last Sunday, on the hallowed grassy courts of Wimbledon, Carlos  Alcaraz outclassed Serbian great Novak Djokovic to secure his first Wimbledon title following a pulsating five sets thriller. Indeed, despite comprehensively losing the first set 1-6, Alcaraz rapidly recovered to play at such a stratospheric level that was at times utterly breathtaking to drink in. Being the evergreen 36-year-old veteran that he is, there is little doubt that Djokovic will soon bounce back in his attempts to claim a record-equaling eighth Wimbledon crown. However, for now, Carlos Alcaraz is deservedly the toast of the realm of tennis and the world is doubtlessly at the feet of the 20-year-old Spanish tennis sensation. In the big picture, though, it is still up in the air whether we are witnessing a changing of the guard in tennis and I suppose that only the passage of time will reveal an accurate state of affairs currently in tennis.

Star-studded Wimbledon set to thrill

In the men’s event, all eyes will be on the talented and record-breaking Serbian Novak Djokovic, who has unequivocally ruled the roost in the grand slams thus far this year. Indeed, the Serb who will be seeking a record-extending 24 th grand slam trophy at Wimbledon, has been in a rich vein of form this year, which has seen him already brilliantly secure both the Australian Open and the French Open. Interestingly, despite being the hot favorite for the title, Djokovic will nevertheless not be entering the fray as the men’s world number one in the world tennis rankings. That honor belongs to the Spanish teenage sensation Carlos Alcarez, who is the leader of the next generation of upcoming, scintillating youngs
